Books, Bites & Bubbles 7/23 Reflection
Books, Bites & Bubbles had our second meeting this past Thursday! We transported ourselves to Paris to discuss Ruth Reichl’s The Paris Novel over a bottle of Le Berceau de Limoux Brut, some homemade focaccia and roasted veggies, and Reichl’s recipe for saffron aioli found in the back of the book. Everything was delicious and this meeting was a fantastic way to usher in the weekend!
Ingredients for Ruth Reichl’s saffron aioli can be found at NWCG! It was delicious!
Stella, The Paris Novel’s protagonist, is navigating the loss of her mother at the beginning of the text. This grief is rife with emotional and mental turmoil considering her mother was someone who Stella found herself to be at odds with for most of her life. She learns that her mother’s final wishes were for Stella to “Go to Paris”... with no other explanation. Hesitantly, Stella takes off on this adventure and along the way learns much more about herself than what she had originally planned.
Look closely and you’ll see the iPad propped up; Maria was with us from CA!
We had a lovely discussion about many facets of the text, and one idea that particularly struck me was a message from the novel we agreed upon: leaning into the unknown often yields many great (and maybe unexpected) successes. I know we can all agree that there have been several moments in our lives which have demanded presence during uncertainty. That’s challenging! However, choosing to push through that uncertainty is where magic happens. If this sounds like you (yes, I’m talking to YOU!) then maybe taking up The Paris Novel might be right for you if you were unable to make it to our meeting.
Our next book is Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler. We will be meeting on Saturday, August 22 from 1:00-2:00 PM. Consider buying your copy of the text from Matriarch at 468 Thames St. to continue to support female creators. I hope to see you at our next meeting!
Cheers,
Sarah
